Tamil Nadu New Schemes and Development Push

Major scheme launch

Tamil Nadu New Schemes and Development Push: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K. Stalin launched several welfare schemes and development projects in Chennai. These initiatives aim to boost economic growth, urban planning, and environmental conservation.

A key highlight is the Tamil Nadu Women Entrepreneur Empowerment Scheme (TWEES). It targets creating 1 lakh women entrepreneurs within five years through support from the MSME Department.

Static GK fact: The MSME sector contributes nearly 30% to India’s GDP and plays a major role in employment generation.

Urban development plans

The government released the Tiruchirappalli Master Plan 2045 and Thoothukudi Master Plan 2045. These plans aim to guide sustainable urban expansion, infrastructure growth, and resource management.

Such long-term master plans help regulate land use, transport networks, and housing development. They are crucial for managing rapid urbanisation in Tamil Nadu.

Static GK Tip: Tiruchirappalli is located on the banks of the Cauvery River, one of South India’s major rivers.

Conservation initiatives

Foundation stones were laid for three major conservation centres across Tamil Nadu. These include a Mangrove Conservation Centre at Pichavaram, an International Migratory Bird Centre at Marakkanam, and a Nilgiri Tahr Conservation Centre in Coimbatore.

These projects aim to protect biodiversity and endangered species. They also promote eco-tourism and environmental awareness.

Static GK fact: The Nilgiri Tahr is the state animal of Tamil Nadu and is endemic to the Western Ghats.

Infrastructure development

The government launched multiple infrastructure projects to strengthen public services. Medical facilities worth ₹167 crore were introduced to improve healthcare access.

Warehousing units with a capacity of 60,000 metric tonnes were set up at a cost of ₹78 crore. Additionally, fisheries infrastructure projects worth ₹100 crore were launched to support coastal livelihoods.

Static GK Tip: Tamil Nadu has one of the longest coastlines in India, supporting a large fishing community.

Cultural and academic initiatives

The Dr. A.J.T. Johnsingh Wildlife Conservation Award was awarded to the son of late veterinarian Vaidyanathan Krishnamurthy. This recognises contributions to wildlife conservation.

The government also nationalised the works of Periyarist V. Anaimuthu and writer Erode Tamilanban. Their royalties were handed over to their family members.

Additionally, 500 rare spiritual books and Tamil translations of 73 works of B.R. Ambedkar were released. This promotes accessibility of knowledge and cultural preservation.
