Major Digital Push in Judiciary
Supreme Court Expands Digital Judiciary Network: The Supreme Court of India launched the One Case One Data initiative on 11 May 2026 under the leadership of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The programme aims to integrate judicial records from the Supreme Court, High Courts, district courts, and taluka courts into a unified digital framework.
The initiative is expected to improve case tracking, judicial transparency, and administrative coordination across different levels of the judiciary. It also strengthens India’s broader push toward digital governance and paperless administration.
Static GK fact: The Supreme Court of India was established on 28 January 1950 under Part V of the Constitution.
One Case One Data Framework
The One Case One Data initiative creates a standardised system for judicial information management. It enables courts to maintain consistent records and allows faster verification of case details.
The digital framework also supports automated retrieval of judicial records. This can reduce duplication of case entries and improve administrative efficiency across courts.
The integrated system gives reciprocal access to relevant judicial information for High Courts and authorised government departments. The focus remains on data integrity, transparency, and accuracy in court proceedings.
Su Sahay AI Chatbot
Along with the digital framework, the Supreme Court introduced the AI-powered chatbot named Su Sahay. It was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in collaboration with the Supreme Court Registry.
The chatbot is integrated with the official Supreme Court website. It assists citizens by providing guidance related to court procedures, filing systems, and judicial services.
The use of artificial intelligence in court administration is expected to reduce delays in obtaining basic legal information. It may also improve public accessibility to judicial services.
Static GK Tip: The National Informatics Centre functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Importance of Judicial Digitisation
India’s judiciary handles millions of pending cases across different courts. Digital initiatives are increasingly seen as necessary for improving case management and reducing administrative burdens.
Integrated databases can help judges and lawyers access records more quickly. It also supports smoother coordination between different judicial institutions and government departments.
The move reflects the growing role of technology in governance and public administration. Digital judicial systems are becoming essential for improving transparency and citizen access.
Role of Taluka Courts
The initiative also includes data integration from taluka courts, which function at the sub-district level in India’s judicial hierarchy. These courts handle local disputes and form an important part of the lower judiciary.
Connecting taluka-level records with higher judicial databases creates a more comprehensive national legal information system. This can improve monitoring and administrative accountability.
Static GK fact: India follows a unified judicial system with the Supreme Court at the apex, followed by High Courts and subordinate courts.
Chief Justice Surya Kant
Surya Kant became the 53rd Chief Justice of India on 24 November 2025. His tenure is scheduled to continue until 9 February 2027.
Under his leadership, the judiciary has focused on modernisation, digital reforms, and improved accessibility of legal services. The latest initiative reflects the increasing emphasis on technology-driven court administration.
