NHAI Expands Digital Highway Services with RajmargYatra App

NHAI Introduces New Digital Services

NHAI Expands Digital Highway Services with RajmargYatra App: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched Digital Local Pass and MargMitra Help Centre on the RajmargYatra Mobile App to improve highway travel and toll management. The initiative supports the Digital India Programme by making toll services and commuter assistance faster, paperless, and more accessible.

These new features simplify FASTag-related services, enable digital toll pass applications, and provide real-time support for National Highway users across the country.

Static GK Fact: NHAI was established in 1988 under the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988, and functions under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

What is the Digital Local Pass?

The Digital Local Pass allows eligible commuters to apply for and receive a monthly toll pass entirely online through the RajmargYatra Mobile App. Earlier, applicants had to visit toll plazas and submit physical documents for verification.

The first Digital Local Pass has been introduced at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi, with plans for expansion to other toll plazas.

Eligibility for the Digital Local Pass

Residents living within 20 km of an eligible toll plaza can apply for the pass. Eligible users receive unlimited travel through the selected toll plaza during the validity period after successful verification.

The entire application process is digital, reducing paperwork and saving time.

Technology Used for Verification

The Digital Local Pass system integrates multiple government digital platforms to ensure secure verification.

It uses DigiLocker for address verification, VAHAN for vehicle registration details, FASTag for toll account validation, and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to confirm that the applicant resides within the prescribed 20 km radius.

This automated verification process enhances transparency and minimizes manual intervention.

Static GK Tip: VAHAN is the national database of vehicle registration maintained by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

What is MargMitra Help Centre?

MargMitra is an AI-enabled digital support system integrated into the RajmargYatra Mobile App. It provides multilingual assistance through both text and voice interfaces.

Users can obtain information about FASTag, toll passes, highway facilities, lodge complaints, and track grievance status through a single platform.

Key Features of MargMitra

MargMitra offers multilingual support, FASTag assistance, toll pass information, grievance registration, real-time complaint tracking, and road safety reporting.

The platform is designed to improve user experience by providing quick responses and centralized digital assistance.

Significance of the Initiative

The introduction of Digital Local Pass and MargMitra marks another step toward building a technology-driven highway ecosystem in India.

These services are expected to improve commuter convenience, reduce waiting time at toll plazas, strengthen digital governance, and enhance transparency in highway operations.

Static GK Fact: FASTag is an electronic toll collection system based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and enables automatic toll payments without stopping at toll plazas.
