Mission Mausam Strengthens India’s Weather Shield: India has significantly expanded its Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) network under the ambitious Mission Mausam programme. The country recorded more than a 250% increase in DWR installations to strengthen real-time weather monitoring and forecasting systems.
The initiative aims to improve the accuracy of weather predictions during extreme events such as cyclones, heavy rainfall, floods, and thunderstorms. The expansion is especially important for vulnerable coastal and agricultural regions.

The Doppler Effect refers to the change in the observed frequency or wavelength of a wave when there is relative motion between the source and the observer. This principle is commonly observed in sound waves and electromagnetic waves.
