India’s 7th Regional Meteorological Centre Inaugurated in Jammu:  Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated India’s seventh Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Jammu on 5 June 2026. The new centre will strengthen weather forecasting, disaster preparedness, and climate services for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh by providing region-specific forecasts and early-warning systems.

Expansion of Doppler Weather Radar Network

At present, four Doppler Weather Radars are operational in the region:

• Jammu
• Srinagar
• Leh
• Banihal Top

Under Mission Mausam, five additional Doppler Weather Radars have been proposed at:

• Anantnag
• Rajouri
• Baramulla
• Kishtwar
• Doda

Srinagar Meteorological Observatory

The Srinagar Meteorological Observatory has received recognition from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as a Centennial Observing Station for its more than 100 years of continuous weather observations.
