Gujarat Police Strengthens Citizen Safety Through Operation Milap: The Gujarat Police successfully traced 1,470 missing persons within one month under a special statewide campaign named Operation Milap. Launched on 7 May 2026, the initiative focused on locating missing individuals, reuniting them with their families, and strengthening public confidence in law enforcement.

The operation combined technology-driven investigations, field verification, and interstate coordination to solve both recent and long-pending missing person cases.

Objectives of Operation Milap

Its major objectives included tracing missing persons, reuniting families, reviewing pending investigations, enhancing public trust in policing, and improving the safety of women and children.

Investigators analyzed mobile phone records, monitored social media activity, verified information at transport hubs and shelter homes, revisited complainants, and coordinated with police departments across multiple states. Family counselling also played an important role in locating missing individuals.

Investigations revealed that disappearances were mainly linked to family disputes, romantic relationships, educational setbacks, labour migration, and domestic conflicts. The operation highlighted the importance of early intervention and community support.

Surat City Led the Recovery Drive

Among all police units in Gujarat, Surat City Police achieved the highest recovery with 341 traced persons.
