Yoga Park Portal Expands Community Wellness Through Public Spaces

Ministry of Ayush Launches Yoga Park Portal

Yoga Park Portal Expands Community Wellness Through Public Spaces: The Ministry of Ayush has launched the Yoga Park Portal, a nationwide digital initiative aimed at transforming existing public parks into dedicated community wellness hubs. The initiative seeks to integrate yoga, meditation, and preventive healthcare into the daily lives of citizens by utilizing accessible public spaces across both urban and rural India.

The portal supports the government’s vision of promoting healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare through community participation and regular wellness activities.

Static GK fact: The Ministry of Ayush is responsible for promoting India’s traditional systems of medicine, including Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy.

What Is the Yoga Park Portal?

The Yoga Park Portal is a digital platform designed to facilitate the establishment and management of Yoga Parks throughout the country. It provides stakeholders with registration facilities, implementation guidelines, concept notes, and other resources required to develop wellness-oriented public spaces.

The initiative encourages local governments, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), NGOs, yoga institutions, and corporate organizations to participate in developing Yoga Parks.

Launch During International Day of Yoga Countdown

The portal was launched by Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, during the International Day of Yoga 2026 countdown event held in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.

The launch also included the relaunch of the Yoga Sangam Portal, reinforcing the government’s commitment to expanding yoga-based wellness initiatives across India.

Static GK Tip: The International Day of Yoga is observed every year on June 21 following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014, based on India’s proposal.

Objectives of the Yoga Park Initiative

The primary objective is to convert conventional public parks into permanent wellness spaces that encourage regular yoga practice and healthy living. The initiative promotes meditation, mindfulness, preventive healthcare awareness, community participation, and fitness activities throughout the year.

Rather than being limited to annual celebrations, these parks are intended to become long-term centres for promoting physical and mental well-being among people of all age groups.

Features of Yoga Parks

The proposed Yoga Parks will include dedicated infrastructure to support holistic wellness activities. Planned facilities include yoga platforms, meditation zones, open-air activity spaces, green landscapes, community wellness areas, and health awareness facilities.

These features aim to create inclusive environments where citizens can participate in regular wellness programmes in a natural setting.

Collaborative Model for Implementation

The initiative follows a collaborative approach by involving government institutions, local communities, and private organizations. The Ministry of Ayush has encouraged companies to support the development and maintenance of Yoga Parks through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

This partnership model is expected to improve access to wellness infrastructure while encouraging greater public participation in preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyles.

Static GK fact: Khajuraho, located in Madhya Pradesh, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples built by the Chandela dynasty.
