Tarang Shakti 2026 Begins in Rajasthan
Tarang Shakti 2026 Expands India’s Multinational Air Cooperation: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has commenced Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 at Air Force Station Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The multinational air exercise is scheduled from 26 September to 12 October 2026 under the theme “Power in Partnership.”
The exercise brings together the IAF and air forces from seven foreign countries. It is the second edition of Tarang Shakti, following its inaugural edition in 2024.

Seven Foreign Air Forces Participate
The participating friendly foreign countries are Australia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Their participating air forces include the Royal Australian Air Force, US Air Force, UAE Air Force, French Air and Space Force, German Air Force, Sri Lanka Air Force and Bangladesh Air Force. Other foreign nations are also participating as observers, broadening professional interaction.
Advanced Aircraft Join the Exercise
Tarang Shakti 2026 features a diverse combination of fighter, transport and aerial-refuelling aircraft.
Major foreign platforms include the F-35 Lightning II, Rafale, F-16, A400M, MRTT, C-130, C-130J and KC-30A. Their participation allows air forces to operate alongside platforms with different technologies, roles and operational procedures.
A major feature of this edition is the participation of the American F-35 Lightning II. The fifth-generation stealth fighter is taking part in an exercise with the IAF for the first time.

Focus on Interoperability
A central objective of Tarang Shakti is to improve interoperability, or the ability of different military forces and systems to coordinate effectively during operations.
Aircrew, mission planners and ground-support personnel can exchange experience in mission planning, operational procedures, aviation safety and joint flying. Such interaction helps participating forces understand different approaches to air operations.
The exercise also provides an environment for practising coordinated missions involving diverse aircraft and operational capabilities.
Professional and Cultural Engagement
Tarang Shakti 2026 extends beyond flying activities. The programme includes professional seminars, industry visits, cultural and heritage activities, yoga sessions and the Sekhon Marathon.
These activities promote interaction among participating contingents while providing opportunities to understand India’s defence ecosystem and cultural heritage.
Strategic Significance
The exercise strengthens India’s engagement with friendly air forces and provides practical exposure to multinational air operations. It also supports professional exchanges and greater familiarity with different operational doctrines and aviation platforms.
The participation of advanced aircraft, including the F-35, Rafale and F-16, makes the exercise an important platform for studying contemporary airpower capabilities and coordination.
