Rajasthan Begins Barrier-Free Toll Collection with MLFF Technology: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced Rajasthan’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Daulatpura Toll Plaza on the Delhi–Jaipur section of National Highway-48 (NH-48). The initiative marks a significant step towards modernizing India’s highway network through seamless electronic toll collection.
The MLFF system enables vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping, reducing congestion, saving fuel, and improving travel efficiency on one of the country’s busiest highways.

What Is MLFF Tolling
Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) is an advanced electronic toll collection system that eliminates physical barriers at toll plazas. Instead of stopping for manual verification, vehicles are identified automatically and toll charges are deducted digitally.
The technology combines Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras with the FASTag electronic toll collection system. This ensures uninterrupted movement while maintaining accurate toll collection.
How the System Works
As a vehicle approaches the tolling point, high-resolution ANPR cameras capture its registration number. The system simultaneously verifies the vehicle through its FASTag linked account.
Once the vehicle is identified, the applicable toll amount is deducted electronically without requiring the driver to stop. Digital monitoring systems also help enforce compliance and improve operational efficiency.

Benefits of Barrier-Free Toll Collection
The MLFF system significantly reduces waiting time at toll plazas by allowing continuous vehicle movement. This leads to smoother traffic flow, especially on high-density corridors such as NH-48.
Reduced idling lowers fuel consumption and vehicle emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability. The system also minimizes travel delays and enhances the overall driving experience for commuters and commercial transport operators.
Expansion Across Rajasthan
Following the successful launch at Daulatpura Toll Plaza, NHAI plans to extend MLFF technology to Shahjahanpur and Manoharpur toll plazas along the same highway corridor.
The expansion is expected to create an almost barrier-free travel experience on the Delhi–Jaipur route, improving logistics efficiency and supporting faster movement of passengers and goods.
Previous MLFF Implementations
Before Rajasthan, NHAI implemented MLFF technology at Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat–Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat and at Mundka Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi.
The encouraging performance of these pilot projects has accelerated the nationwide rollout of barrier-free toll collection systems on major National Highways.
