Puttaparthi Emerging as India’s Defence Aviation Hub: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) are planning to establish an Aircraft Integration and Flight Testing Complex in Puttaparthi of Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district. The project has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Defence.

The proposed facility will support the development of indigenous fighter aircraft and advanced unmanned aerial systems. It is closely linked with the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) Programme, India’s ambitious fifth-generation stealth fighter project.

Features of the Proposed Complex

The state government also plans to extend the runway length to 10,000 feet. Additional infrastructure such as an Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, navigational systems, and meteorological support facilities will also be developed.

The project is expected to attract an investment of nearly ₹1 lakh crore. The facility will handle aircraft assembly, systems integration, ground testing, and flight trials in one location.
