PM Modi’s Four-Day Central Asia Visit
PM Modi to Visit Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan for SCO Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to undertake a four-day visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan from August 29, 2026. The visit focuses on strengthening India’s relations with Central Asian countries and participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
Modi is scheduled to visit Uzbekistan from August 29–30, followed by a visit to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on August 31 for the SCO Summit.
Visit to Uzbekistan
During his visit to Uzbekistan, PM Modi is scheduled to hold talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The discussions are expected to cover several areas, including:
- Trade and investment
- Defence and security
- Energy
- Digital connectivity
- Education
- People-to-people relations
Modi is also scheduled to visit the Lal Bahadur Shastri memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.
Modi–Putin Meeting at SCO Summit
A key diplomatic engagement during the visit will be a meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.
The two leaders are expected to review the broader India–Russia bilateral relationship, including areas of strategic cooperation.
25th SCO Summit in Bishkek
The 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit is scheduled to take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Important issues expected to be discussed include:
- Regional security
- Terrorism
- Extremism
- Connectivity
- Regional cooperation
India became a full member of the SCO in 2017, along with Pakistan.

During his Kyrgyzstan visit, PM Modi is also scheduled to attend the inauguration of the 6th World Nomad Games.
The event showcases the traditional sports, culture and heritage of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia.
