Kazakhstan Remains the World’s Largest Uranium Producer: Kazakhstan has remained the world’s leading uranium-producing country since 2009. According to World Nuclear Association (WNA) data, Kazakhstan produced 23,270 tonnes of uranium in 2024, accounting for approximately 39% of global mine production.

Why Kazakhstan Dominates Uranium Mining
Kazakhstan’s leadership is closely linked to its substantial uranium deposits and established mining infrastructure. The country overtook other major producers and has retained the number-one position since 2009.
A major feature of its uranium sector is in-situ recovery, also known as in-situ leaching. Instead of removing large quantities of ore to the surface, a solution is injected into suitable underground deposits to dissolve uranium. The uranium-bearing solution is then pumped back to the surface for processing.
