The platform focuses on improving maternal and child healthcare through digital monitoring and integrated medical records. JANANI stands for Journey of Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care.

Upgraded Version of RCH Portal
JANANI is an upgraded form of the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Portal. The platform stores long-term reproductive healthcare records for women through a unified digital system. It ensures continuity of healthcare records during pregnancy, childbirth, and neonatal stages.
The system also supports real-time data access for healthcare workers and government officials. Digital tracking helps identify healthcare gaps and improves timely medical support for beneficiaries.
Static GK Tip: The Reproductive and Child Health Programme was introduced to improve maternal survival and child healthcare indicators in India.
Major Digital Features
The platform includes QR-based Mother and Child Health cards for easy medical access. JANANI also provides automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, vaccination reminders, and expected delivery notifications.
Real-time dashboards help health administrators monitor maternal healthcare services efficiently. The platform uses ABHA-linked identification, Aadhaar authentication, and mobile registration systems for beneficiary verification.
Static GK fact: ABHA stands for Ayushman Bharat Health Account, introduced under India’s National Digital Health Mission.
Integration with National Schemes
JANANI has been integrated with U-WIN and POSHAN Abhiyaan to strengthen healthcare coordination. U-WIN supports immunisation tracking, while POSHAN Abhiyaan focuses on nutrition improvement among women and children.
This integration allows seamless sharing of healthcare data between nutrition, vaccination, and maternal health systems. It also improves monitoring of beneficiaries under multiple welfare schemes.
Static GK Tip: POSHAN Abhiyaan was launched in 2018 to reduce malnutrition and improve nutritional outcomes in India.
Beneficiary Coverage
As of 7 May 2026, JANANI had registered more than 1.34 crore beneficiaries across the country. The platform recorded over 30 lakh pregnant women and generated more than 30 lakh digital health cards.
More than one lakh biometric verifications had also been completed through the platform. These figures highlight India’s increasing adoption of digital healthcare systems.
Digital health platforms reduce paperwork, improve medical coordination, and strengthen public healthcare transparency. JANANI is expected to improve maternal safety and child healthcare delivery through technology-driven monitoring.
Maternal Healthcare in India
Maternal and child healthcare services in India include antenatal care, institutional delivery, immunisation, postnatal care, and nutrition assistance. Government programmes increasingly use biometric systems and digital databases for service delivery.
India has expanded healthcare digitisation under the broader vision of Digital India and the Ayushman Bharat Mission. JANANI represents another major step towards technology-enabled healthcare governance.
