Indian Railways Expands Network with New South Coast Railway Zone: The Indian Railways has unveiled a redesigned logo featuring 18 red stars to represent the creation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) as the country’s 18th railway zone.
The updated logo reflects the expansion of the railway network and the strengthening of India’s railway administration structure. The new symbol will be used officially across railway platforms and operations.
The approval for the redesigned logo was granted by the Railway Board after the operationalization of the new railway zone.

South Coast Railway Becomes India’s 18th Zone
The South Coast Railway Zone will officially begin operations from June 1, 2026. The formation of the new zone was notified by the Ministry of Railways through a gazette notification issued under the provisions of the Railways Act, 1989.
The new zone has been created by reorganizing parts of the existing East Coast Railway (ECoR) and South Central Railway (SCR) zones.
The move aims to improve administrative efficiency, railway management, passenger services, and infrastructure development in southern India.
Headquarters of South Coast Railway
The headquarters of the South Coast Railway Zone will be located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The headquarters project is being developed at Mudasarlova, Visakhapatnam, with an estimated land area of 52.2 acres and a project cost of approximately ₹183.58 crore.
The modern administrative centre is expected to support better planning, coordination, and execution of railway projects in the region.
Railway Divisions Under SCoR
The newly created railway zone will manage four major divisions:
- Guntakal Division
- Guntur Division
- Vijayawada Division
- Visakhapatnam Division
The zone will cover parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, improving railway connectivity and operational coordination across these regions.
The earlier Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has been reorganized, with one part becoming the new Visakhapatnam Division under South Coast Railway and another part forming the Rayagada Division under East Coast Railway.

The creation of the South Coast Railway Zone fulfills a long-standing demand for improved railway administration in Andhra Pradesh.
The new zone is expected to enhance:
