Bilateral Naval Exercise in Colombo
India Sri Lanka Deepen Naval Coordination Through IN SLN DIVEX 2026: India and Sri Lanka jointly conducted the fourth edition of IN–SLN DIVEX 2026 in Colombo from April 21 to 28. The exercise witnessed the participation of the Indian Navy’s specialised diving support vessel INS Nireekshak along with expert divers from the Sri Lankan Navy. The initiative reflected the expanding maritime partnership between both neighbouring countries.
The bilateral exercise mainly focused on underwater diving operations and maritime coordination. Both navies practised advanced techniques to improve operational compatibility during emergency and strategic missions in the Indian Ocean Region.

Advanced Deep Sea Operations
A major highlight of the exercise was the successful execution of deep-sea diving beyond 55 metres depth. This operation demonstrated the technical efficiency and preparedness of both naval forces. Divers also performed mixed gas diving drills, which are essential for complicated underwater rescue and repair missions.
The exercise included diving operations near the historic World War-era wrecks SS Worcester and SS Perseus. These missions enhanced practical underwater navigation skills and provided operational exposure in challenging marine environments.

The exercise aimed to improve interoperability between the two navies. India and Sri Lanka continue to expand defence partnerships through naval exercises, training exchanges and coastal security initiatives. These engagements contribute to regional peace and stability.
