Government Revises Passport Charges
India Revises Passport Fee Structure from July 2026: The Government of India has announced a revised passport fee structure, effective from 1 July 2026. The updated charges apply to fresh passport applications, renewals, Tatkal services, replacement of lost or damaged passports, and passports for minors.
This is the first major revision since 2012 and has been introduced following amendments to the Passport Rules, 1980. The government stated that the increase reflects the rising cost of delivering secure and efficient passport-related services.

New Passport Fee Structure
The revised fee structure increases charges for both 36-page and 60-page passports under normal and Tatkal categories.

- 36-page Tatkal Passport: ₹5,000 (Earlier ₹3,500)
- 60-page Normal Passport: ₹3,500 (Earlier ₹2,000)
- 60-page Tatkal Passport: ₹6,000 (Earlier ₹4,000)
These revised charges are applicable to all applications submitted on or after 1 July 2026.
Tatkal and Replacement Passport Charges
The Tatkal Passport Scheme, which provides expedited passport processing, will also become more expensive under the revised structure.
For replacement of lost, stolen, or damaged passports, the new charges are:
- 36-page Replacement: ₹5,000 (Normal) and ₹7,500 (Tatkal)
- 60-page Replacement: ₹6,000 (Normal) and ₹8,500 (Tatkal)
The revised fees apply to both fresh replacement requests and urgent applications processed under the Tatkal scheme.

Revised Fees for Minor Passports
The government has also revised passport charges for applicants below 18 years of age.
The new fees are:
- 36-page Minor Passport (Normal): ₹1,750

These revised rates apply to both fresh passport applications and replacement requests for minors.
Passport Validity Remains Unchanged
Although passport application fees have increased, there is no change in passport validity.
The validity continues as follows:
- Adult Passport: 10 years
- Minor Passport: Validity remains as prescribed under the existing Passport Rules, 1980
The revision only affects service charges and does not alter passport eligibility or validity periods.

The updated fee structure aims to support improved passport infrastructure, enhanced security features, and efficient service delivery. It also reflects the increased operational costs associated with passport processing and digital service expansion.
