India Accelerates Smart Border Governance with LPMS VINIMAY: Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS) ‘VINIMAY’ in New Delhi on 9 June 2026. The digital platform has been introduced to modernize the management of cargo, passengers, and vehicles at India’s land ports.
The initiative forms a key component of the Government’s Smart Border Management strategy. It aims to improve security, facilitate trade, reduce delays, and strengthen coordination among multiple government agencies.

What is LPMS VINIMAY
LPMS VINIMAY is an integrated digital platform that enables seamless management of border operations through a single electronic interface. It connects various departments involved in customs clearance, immigration, logistics, and security.
The platform supports real-time information sharing, faster approvals, and improved monitoring across India’s land ports. It replaces multiple manual procedures with an efficient digital workflow.

Major agencies linked with LPMS include ICEGATE, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Border Security Force (BSF), Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), UIDAI, Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and Motor Vehicle Systems.

Key Benefits of LPMS
The new platform significantly simplifies border operations through automation and digital processing. Government estimates indicate that paperwork could be reduced by around 90%.
The system also introduces Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based gate operations, real-time data sharing, and a Single Electronic Window for processing. Truck waiting time is expected to decrease by 40–60%, while gate processing time may reduce by 22–35%.

India’s land port trade has grown remarkably from approximately ₹5,000 crore in 2014 to around ₹83,000 crore in 2026. The government also plans to establish 11 additional land ports over the next few years to improve connectivity and regional development.
