India Launches Its First Model Border Village

Chumur Emerges as India’s First Model Border Village: Chumur, a remote village in eastern Ladakh, has become India’s first Model Border Village under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP). Located close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, the project aims to transform the frontier settlement into a self-reliant, climate-resilient, and economically vibrant community.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on 3 June 2026 by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. The initiative reflects India’s focus on strengthening border infrastructure while improving the quality of life of people living in strategically important regions.
