Amaravati to Get India’s First Quantum and AI University: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the establishment of India’s first dedicated Quantum and AI University Campus at Amaravati.

The campus will be established by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The project will cover 8.5 acres and involve an investment of ₹730.7 crore over five years.

Focus Areas of the University

The institution will combine education, research, skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship with a focus on advanced deep-tech fields.

Major areas include:

  • Quantum Communication and Security
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Data Science
  • Semiconductor Fabrication
  • Chip Design

The university is expected to offer UG, PG, doctoral, diploma and executive programmes.

Academic Programmes to Begin in 2026

While the permanent Amaravati campus is being developed, academic research and advanced technology skill programmes are expected to begin from September 2026 at a temporary campus of Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur.

The permanent project is proposed to receive full financial support through Government of India grants-in-aid via MeitY.

Quantum Research and Innovation Block

A major component of the campus will be the Quantum Research, Innovation & Incubation Block, covering approximately 1.2 lakh sq. ft.

The facility will include infrastructure for:

  • Quantum computing
  • Quantum communication
  • Quantum photonics
  • Quantum security
  • Cryogenic computing
  • High-performance computing
  • Cleanroom and nanofabrication
  • Semiconductor technology
  • Chip design
  • Data centre
  • Startup incubation

Target: 8,250 Learners in Five Years

The university aims to train 8,250 learners over five years.
