UIDAI Expands Aadhaar Digital Services
Aadhaar App Adds Free Email Update Facility for Citizens: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a free email update facility through the Aadhaar App, allowing residents to add or modify their registered email address without visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The service became available from 1 July 2026 and will remain free for an initial six-month period.
This initiative strengthens Digital India by making Aadhaar-related services faster, paperless, and more accessible through smartphones.
Static GK Fact: UIDAI is a statutory authority established under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the Aadhaar Act, 2016.
What the New Service Offers
The newly launched feature enables Aadhaar holders to securely update or register their email address directly through the official Aadhaar App. Previously, users had to visit an enrolment or update centre for this service.
The digital process reduces paperwork, saves time, and encourages residents to keep their Aadhaar information updated for receiving important notifications and online services.
Strong Public Response
The email update facility received an encouraging response immediately after its launch. According to UIDAI, more than 2.5 lakh residents updated their email addresses within the first two days of the service becoming available.
The rapid adoption reflects increasing public confidence in self-service digital platforms and the government’s push toward paperless governance.

Aadhaar App Becomes a Comprehensive Platform

By shifting these services to a digital platform, UIDAI is reducing dependence on physical centres while improving convenience for millions of Aadhaar holders across the country.
Growing Adoption of Digital Aadhaar Services
UIDAI reported impressive usage statistics for its digital services. More than 40 lakh users have updated their mobile numbers, while nearly 10 lakh residents have updated their addresses through the Aadhaar App.
The addition of the email update feature further strengthens the app as a citizen-centric digital platform supporting secure identity management.
How Residents Can Update Their Email
Residents can update their email ID by downloading or updating the official Aadhaar App, logging in through the prescribed authentication process, selecting the Email Update option, entering the new email address, completing verification, and submitting the request.
The service is available free of cost for six months from 1 July 2026, making it easier for residents to maintain accurate Aadhaar records.
