India’s New Childhood Diabetes Protection Mission: The Union Health Ministry has introduced a comprehensive national framework to manage childhood diabetes across India. The initiative focuses on early screening, proper diagnosis, treatment support, and long-term monitoring for children from birth to 18 years of age.

The newly released “Guidance Document on Diabetes Mellitus in Children” establishes a standardized nationwide strategy for handling diabetes cases among children. The framework aims to reduce diabetes-related complications and mortality through early intervention and uninterrupted care.

The free healthcare package includes:

• Lifelong insulin therapy
• Free glucometers and testing strips
• Diagnostic and laboratory services
• Continuous follow-up and monitoring

By reducing financial pressure on families, the initiative aims to improve treatment continuity and prevent severe complications among children.
