Digital Platform for Maternal and Child Welfare
Gujarat Unveils PM Family Care Tracker for Lifelong Welfare Monitoring: The PM Family Care Tracker (PM-FCT) has been launched as a pilot project in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, to strengthen the delivery of government welfare schemes for mothers and children. The initiative aims to create a unified digital ecosystem that tracks beneficiaries from pregnancy until 18 years of age, ensuring timely access to health, nutrition, education, and social welfare services.
The platform supports the vision of Viksit Gujarat @2047 and Viksit Bharat @2047 by promoting data-driven governance and efficient public service delivery.
Static GK fact: Gujarat is the largest state in western India by area, and Gandhinagar is its capital.
How PM-FCT Works
The PM Family Care Tracker assigns every beneficiary a unique digital identity linked to either the Birth Registration Number or the ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ID. This enables continuous monitoring of benefits throughout different stages of life.
The integrated system helps government departments identify eligible beneficiaries, monitor service delivery, and reduce duplication of records. It also ensures that essential services reach every eligible mother and child without delays.
Static GK Tip: ABHA ID is a unique health identification number created under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) to facilitate secure digital health records.
Key Objectives of the Initiative
The platform has been designed to improve the effectiveness of welfare programmes through continuous monitoring and real-time interventions. Its major objectives include enhancing maternal healthcare, increasing vaccination coverage, reducing child malnutrition, improving school enrolment, and tracking the health of adolescent girls.
It also strengthens coordination among multiple government departments by integrating beneficiary information into a single digital platform.
Advanced Monitoring and Risk Alerts
One of the major strengths of PM-FCT is its automated risk alert mechanism. The platform instantly identifies missed immunisations, high-risk pregnancies, child malnutrition, school dropouts, and missed health check-ups.
These alerts are forwarded to officials at the village, taluka, district, and state levels, enabling timely intervention and improving service delivery.
Static GK fact: Taluka is an administrative subdivision below the district level and plays an important role in implementing government welfare programmes.
Integration with Government Schemes
The platform integrates nearly 18 government welfare schemes related to health, nutrition, education, and social welfare. Important schemes linked with PM-FCT include Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), PM POSHAN, Mission Vatsalya, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, PM CARES for Children, and the National Child Labour Project (NCLP).
This integrated approach helps eligible beneficiaries receive multiple government benefits through a single monitoring system.
Importance for Public Welfare
The PM Family Care Tracker represents an important step towards technology-enabled governance. By integrating health, education, and welfare databases, it promotes transparency, accountability, and timely delivery of public services.
The initiative is expected to improve maternal and child health indicators while ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is excluded from government welfare programmes.
