Global Presentation in South Korea
Andhra Pradesh Advances Clean Energy Leadership at Global Platform: Andhra Pradesh showcased its Integrated Clean Energy Policy at the World Climate Cities Forum 2026 held in Yeosu, South Korea. The state delegation was led by C. Divakar Reddy, Chairman of Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA).
The policy reflects the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to achieve net-zero emissions by 2047. It also emphasises ensuring affordable and reliable electricity alongside sustainability goals.
Static GK fact: South Korea is a major industrial economy in East Asia, with its capital at Seoul.
Push for Renewable Energy Expansion
The policy promotes large-scale adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar power, wind energy, and biofuels. It also highlights emerging technologies like green hydrogen and battery energy storage systems.
To attract investments, the state offers incentives, single-window clearance, and the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). These measures aim to boost industrial participation in clean energy projects.
Static GK Tip: SEZs are designated zones with special economic regulations to promote exports and industrial growth.
Strategic Net Zero Vision
The goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2047 aligns with India’s long-term climate commitments. Net-zero refers to balancing greenhouse gas emissions with removal mechanisms like carbon capture.
The state plans to integrate renewable energy growth with industrial development, ensuring economic progress alongside environmental protection. This approach supports India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.
Climate Resilient Rural Initiatives
TUDA is actively working on developing climate-resilient villages within its region. A model initiative is being implemented in Kandulavaripalli gram panchayat, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and climate adaptation.
These projects involve coordination between multiple departments to improve rural resilience against climate risks. The focus includes water management, green infrastructure, and sustainable livelihoods.
Static GK fact: A Gram Panchayat is the lowest level of local self-government in rural India under the Panchayati Raj system.
Urban Challenge in Tirupati
The city of Tirupati faces unique environmental challenges due to its heavy footfall of nearly 18 million visitors annually. This puts pressure on transport, energy, and public utilities, especially during festival periods.
Managing greenhouse gas emissions while supporting tourism is a key concern. Authorities are focusing on sustainable urban planning to balance economic activity with environmental sustainability.
Importance of the Policy
The initiative positions Andhra Pradesh as a potential global clean energy hub. It also highlights the growing role of sub-national governments in tackling climate change.
The policy demonstrates how renewable energy adoption, investment-friendly policies, and local climate action can work together for long-term sustainability.
