Odisha Accelerates Industrial Growth with ₹76,612 Crore Investment Push: The Odisha High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA), chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved investment proposals worth ₹76,611.86 crore across 20 major projects. These projects are expected to generate more than 50,500 employment opportunities across nine districts, reinforcing Odisha’s position as one of India’s fastest-growing industrial destinations.

The approved investments span diverse sectors, including lab-grown diamonds, renewable energy, critical minerals, steel, pharmaceuticals, railways, and power generation, supporting balanced industrial development across the state.

Static GK fact: The High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) is the apex body in Odisha responsible for approving large industrial investment proposals to promote economic growth and ease of doing business.

Odisha Enters the Lab-Grown Diamond Industry

A major highlight of the approvals is Odisha’s entry into the lab-grown diamond manufacturing sector. Three large-scale projects have been sanctioned in Khordha district, positioning the state as an emerging hub for sustainable diamond production.

The approved projects include Kira Diam LLP with an investment of ₹7,000 crore, Anjali Labtech Limited with ₹1,617.50 crore, and Grow Magnificent Private Limited with ₹1,200 crore. Together, these projects are expected to create over 8,000 jobs.

Static GK Tip: Lab-grown diamonds are produced in controlled laboratory conditions using advanced technology. They possess the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds but have a lower environmental footprint.

Boost for Critical Minerals and Renewable Energy

The state has also approved projects related to critical minerals, which are essential for electric vehicles and clean energy technologies. N A N Magnetech Private Limited will establish a facility to manufacture Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) magnets, while Larsen & Toubro will set up a permanent magnet manufacturing unit in Ganjam.

In the renewable energy sector, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited will invest ₹10,000 crore to manufacture solar ingots, wafers, and photovoltaic cells. Saatvik Solar Industries has also received approval for a major solar cell manufacturing project, strengthening India’s domestic solar ecosystem.

Steel Sector Continues to Drive Growth

The steel industry accounts for the largest share of the approved investments. Major projects include a ₹15,000 crore integrated steel plant by Rashmi Metallurgical Industry Private Limited in Jajpur and a ₹7,580 crore project by Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited in Sambalpur.

Additional investments by SMC Power Generation Limited, BR Steel & Power Private Limited, and Ratnamani Metals and Tubes Limited further reinforce Odisha’s status as one of India’s leading steel-producing states.

Static GK fact: Odisha is India’s leading producer of iron ore and possesses abundant reserves of coal, bauxite, chromite, manganese, and limestone, making it a major hub for mineral-based industries.

Industrial Diversification and Employment

Beyond heavy industries, the approved proposals include investments in pharmaceutical manufacturing, railway coach production, hydroelectric power, and thermal power generation. These projects are expected to accelerate industrial diversification while creating employment across multiple sectors.

The investment package aligns with India’s goals of promoting clean energy, advanced manufacturing, critical mineral processing, and self-reliance under the broader vision of sustainable industrial development.
