Launch of Women-Centric Welfare Schemes
Women Welfare Schemes Launched in Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu launched four major welfare initiatives for women in New Delhi on March 2, 2026 under the programme “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi.” The schemes were introduced by the Delhi Government to strengthen women’s mobility, safety, financial security, and social empowerment.
These initiatives focus on improving daily life conditions for women through better access to public transport, financial assistance, and long-term economic support for girls. The programme reflects the growing emphasis on gender-inclusive governance in urban policy frameworks.
The four schemes launched include the Pink National Common Mobility Card, Free LPG Cylinders Scheme, Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, and Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar initiative.

Pink National Common Mobility Card
The Pink National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is designed to provide seamless access to public transport systems across Delhi’s bus network and other transit services. It promotes integrated transport connectivity and cashless travel for women.
The card supports free bus travel for women, enabling easier movement for work, education, and daily activities. It also enhances convenience through digital ticketing and unified transit access.
This initiative is expected to improve women’s participation in the workforce by ensuring safe and affordable mobility within the city.

Free LPG Cylinders Support Scheme
Another important welfare measure announced was the Free LPG Cylinders Scheme for ration card holders in Delhi. The scheme provides two free LPG cylinders annually to eligible families.
These cylinders will be distributed during major festivals such as Holi and Diwali, reducing household expenditure for economically weaker sections. The initiative also encourages the adoption of clean cooking fuel, improving health outcomes for women.
The scheme aligns with broader national efforts promoting clean energy and reduced indoor air pollution.

Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana
The Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana focuses on the financial empowerment and educational support of girl children. Under the scheme, the government deposits ₹56,000 in installments in the name of an eligible girl child.
With accumulated interest, the amount is expected to exceed ₹1 lakh by the time the beneficiary turns 21 years old. The final maturity amount is transferred to an Aadhaar-linked bank account, provided the girl continues her education.
Eligibility includes annual family income below ₹1.20 lakh, Delhi residency for three years, and the birth of the girl child within the state. The scheme is limited to two girl children per family.
Static GK Tip: Several Indian states run girl child welfare schemes to improve gender equality and reduce the gender gap in education and employment.
Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar Initiative
The Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar initiative focuses on ensuring that citizens receive their pending financial dues from government schemes in a transparent and timely manner.
It aims to strengthen accountability within administrative systems and ensure that financial entitlements reach beneficiaries without delay. The programme promotes financial rights and transparency in welfare delivery.
Such measures help build public trust in governance and improve efficiency in social welfare distribution.
Vision of Sashakt Nari Samriddh Delhi
The programme Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi represents a broader vision of empowering women socially and economically. The four initiatives collectively address mobility, financial security, and social inclusion.
By improving access to public services and financial support, these schemes aim to enhance women’s independence and participation in urban development.
