VB-G RAM G Act 2025 and India’s New Rural Employment Framework: The VB-G RAM G Act, 2025 formally came into force after receiving Presidential assent from President Droupadi Murmu on December 21, 2025.
The assent marked the official repeal and replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The Ministry of Rural Development confirmed that the new law now governs rural wage employment across India.

This transition represents a structural shift in how the State approaches rural employment and livelihood security.

What Is VB-G RAM G

The full name of the law is Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin).
It is designed as a combined employment and livelihood mission, rather than a standalone wage-employment programme.
The law was enacted by Parliament in 2025 amid opposition protests questioning the replacement of a rights-based framework.

The government defended the move as necessary to modernise rural development policy.

Guaranteed Employment Under the New Law

A central provision of the Act is the guarantee of 125 days of wage employment per rural household per financial year.
This is an increase from the 100-day guarantee under MGNREGA, making it one of the most debated aspects of the law.
The government states that higher guaranteed days will stabilise rural incomes and reduce seasonal distress migration.

Employment is intended to be linked with productive and community-oriented works.
