Two new schemes for better governance
Uzhavarai Thedi and Eliya Aalumai Schemes: In a move that connects governance with grassroots, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has rolled out two major initiatives – Uzhavarai Thedi and Eliya Aalumai (SimpleGov). These schemes aim to make governance not just efficient, but also more accessible for rural and urban populations alike.
Uzhavarai Thedi to support farmers
Uzhavarai Thedi Velanmai Thittam is a farmer-focused scheme that will be launched across all 17,116 revenue villages in the state within a year. This initiative is not just about distributing resources, but about personal interaction with farmers.
A dedicated team will visit each village. This includes Block Level Officers, experts from animal husbandry, co-operative societies, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Their goal is simple – listen to the farmers, explain best practices, and help improve yield and cultivation methods.
These camps are not a one-time thing. They’ll happen twice a month, ensuring that farmers always have someone to turn to for help and advice. This also means farmers don’t have to travel long distances to access expertise.
Digital services through Eliya Aalumai
The Eliya Aalumai or SimpleGov scheme is all about making government services available online. Today, many citizens, especially the elderly and working class, struggle with paperwork and long queues. This scheme changes that.
Under Eliya Aalumai, people can now apply for various certificates and licenses from their homes. This includes:
- Sanitary certificates
- General Building licenses
- Hostel licenses for working women
- Licenses for women’s homes
- Property value certificates
- Old age home licenses
- Conduct certificates
- No Objection Certificates (NOC) for government employees applying for passports
These are everyday needs, and making them available online is a huge relief for citizens.
Real impact on daily lives
Think of a farmer in a remote village who now gets advice right at his doorstep. Or a working woman who needs a hostel license but doesn’t have time to visit multiple offices. These schemes bridge the gap between people and the government.
