UIDAI’s SITAA Programme Strengthens Aadhaar Innovation and Security: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a pioneering programme — SITAA (Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar) — to promote innovation, research, and collaboration within India’s digital identity ecosystem. The initiative focuses on making Aadhaar-based systems more secure, efficient, and technologically advanced through partnerships with startups, academia, and tech enterprises.

Objectives of SITAA

These collaborations help bridge the gap between innovation and practical application, allowing emerging startups to contribute to India’s digital identity ecosystem.
Innovation Challenges Under SITAA
UIDAI has introduced three pilot innovation challenges under SITAA, inviting applications until November 15, 2025.
- Face Liveness Detection: Development of AI-based SDKs to detect and prevent spoofing attempts such as deepfakes, masks, or morphing.
- Presentation Attack Detection: Research-focused projects that create real-time systems capable of identifying replays or digital manipulations using AI and ML algorithms.
- Contactless Fingerprint Authentication: Innovative SDKs using smartphone cameras for fingerprint scanning, ensuring inclusivity and cost efficiency.
These challenges promote secure and user-friendly digital authentication without compromising privacy.

The SITAA initiative aligns with national programmes like Digital India, Digital Public Infrastructure, and Atmanirbhar Bharat. By empowering domestic talent and reducing reliance on foreign technology, it contributes to India’s data sovereignty and technological self-reliance.
