Launch of Aadhaar Mascot Udai

UIDAI Introduces Aadhaar Mascot Udai: The Unique Identification Authority of India has launched the Aadhaar mascot named Udai  to make Aadhaar services more people-friendly and accessible. The mascot has been introduced as a resident-facing communication companion for simplifying Aadhaar-related information.

Udai is designed to be friendly, relatable, and easy to understand. The initiative aims to humanise digital identity services and improve public engagement with Aadhaar systems.

Purpose Behind Introducing Udai

The primary objective of Udai is to bridge the gap between complex technology and everyday citizens. The mascot will help explain Aadhaar services in a simple and visual manner.

Key areas where Udai will assist include Aadhaar updates, authentication processes, offline Aadhaar verification, and selective sharing of Aadhaar information. Emphasis is also placed on responsible and secure usage of Aadhaar.

Static GK fact: UIDAI was established in 2009 as a statutory authority under the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

Enhancing Citizen-Centric Communication

UIDAI aims to make Aadhaar communication inclusive, especially for first-time users, senior citizens, and residents in remote areas. Mascot-driven communication helps overcome language, literacy, and technology barriers.

Udai will also support awareness about new technologies linked to Aadhaar. This reflects India’s broader push towards citizen-centric digital governance.

National Competition Through MyGov

The mascot was selected through open national-level design and naming competitions conducted on the MyGov platform. This participatory approach ensured public involvement in shaping Aadhaar’s communication identity.

A total of 875 entries were received from students, professionals, designers, and creative contributors across India. A multi-tier evaluation process ensured transparency and quality.

Static GK Tip: MyGov is a citizen engagement platform launched in 2014 under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Winners of the Mascot Competitions

The mascot design competition saw Arun Gokul from Thrissur, Kerala, winning the first prize. The second and third prizes were awarded to Idris Dawaiwala from Pune and Krishna Sharma from Ghazipur, respectively.

For the mascot naming competition, Riya Jain from Bhopal secured first place. The name Udai, meaning rise or progress, symbolises empowerment and growth linked to Aadhaar.

Official Unveiling and Statements

The mascot was officially unveiled by Neelkanth Mishra, Chairman of UIDAI, at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram. Competition winners were felicitated during the event.

Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, stated that public participation strengthens trust and acceptance of digital systems. Vivek C Verma highlighted that Udai will act as a narrator helping residents connect easily with Aadhaar services.
