Tiruppur Kumaran
Tiruppur Kumaran and Subramaniya Siva remembered: Tiruppur Kumaran was born in 1904 in a humble weaver family near Erode, Tamil Nadu. He founded the Desa Bandhu Youth Association to mobilize youth in the national struggle. His life was deeply shaped by Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent disobedience movement.
Kumaran became a symbol of courage by participating in protests against colonial authority. In 1932, during a march against British rule, he was brutally attacked by the police but refused to let go of the National Flag in his hand, even at the moment of his death.
