Tamil Nadu Welfare Schemes Expansion and Development Initiatives: The Tamil Nadu Government has expanded several welfare initiatives to support vulnerable communities and ensure inclusive development. The ‘Anbu Karangal’ scheme provides ₹2,000 monthly assistance to children who have lost their parents, ensuring uninterrupted education until 18 years of age. This initiative aims to prevent school dropouts among orphaned children.
To address elderly welfare, ‘Anbu Cholai’ day-care centres have been established in 25 locations across the state. These centres provide care, recreational activities, and social support for senior citizens.
The government has also amended the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1994 and the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998 to nominate differently-abled persons as members in local bodies. This step strengthens inclusive governance and representation in grassroots democracy.

Education and Skill Development
Tamil Nadu continues to focus on improving higher education access and infrastructure. The Kalaignar Centenary Library has been established in Madurai, enhancing academic resources for students and researchers.
The ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College Development Scheme’ aims to strengthen infrastructure in arts and science, engineering, and polytechnic colleges. As a result of such initiatives, Tamil Nadu records a higher education Gross Enrollment Ratio of 47%, almost double the national average.
The ‘Kalloori Kanavu’ scheme guides school graduates in choosing suitable higher education courses aligned with their interests and career aspirations. Meanwhile, the ‘Vetri Nichayam’ programme, implemented by the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, provides youth with skill training to improve employability.

Industrial Growth and Digital Infrastructure
Tamil Nadu is expanding its industrial base through SIPCOT industrial parks. Earlier, 24 parks across 15 districts covered 32,525 acres. After recent expansions, 54 industrial parks now operate across 49,468 acres.
Major infrastructure projects include the development of Tamil Nadu Knowledge City and a Global City project near Chennai covering 2,000 acres. At Sriperumbudur, India’s largest workers’ hostel with 18,720 beds has been constructed to support industrial labour.
Technology infrastructure is also expanding. TIDEL Parks are being established in Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, and Hosur, while TIDEL Neo Mini IT Parks have opened in several tier-2 cities such as Villupuram, Salem, Thanjavur, and Tiruppur.

Environmental initiatives include the ‘Neithal Restoration Movement’, which focuses on restoring mangroves across 3,733 hectares along coastal regions.
Digital connectivity is being improved through the TANFINET project, which aims to connect all 12,525 village panchayats with high-speed optical fibre broadband.

The ‘Annal Ambedkar Overseas Scholarship Scheme’ supports students pursuing higher education abroad. Under the Annal Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme, subsidies of ₹420 crore have been provided to 4,948 entrepreneurs from marginalized communities.
The state has also introduced the ‘Chennai One’ mobile app, India’s first integrated ticketing system for multimodal transport planning. Citizen outreach initiatives such as ‘Makkaludan Mudhalvar’ and ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ camps have resolved millions of public petitions.
