Mission Overview
Tamil Nadu Technical Textiles Mission: The Tamil Nadu Technical Textiles Mission is a five-year initiative designed to strengthen the State’s position in advanced textile manufacturing. Static GK Tip: The MSME sector contributes around 30% of India’s GDP, highlighting its importance in industrial growth.
Enablement Through Central Schemes
Multiple schemes from the MSME Ministry and the Ministry of Textiles are integrated into the Mission. These schemes help reduce financial barriers for entrepreneurs entering the sector. Investment support includes subsidies for machinery, innovation, and skill development.
Promotion and Market Linkages
The State will organise a technical textile expo in Coimbatore once every two years. This platform will showcase emerging technologies and connect domestic and global buyers. A trade facilitation portal is also planned to simplify communication between manufacturers and buyers, strengthening supply chains.
Static GK fact: Coimbatore is known as the Manchester of South India due to its strong textile and engineering base.
Research and Development Support
To strengthen innovation, subsidies will be provided to three or four companies engaging in R&D activities. This aims to improve product quality, diversify applications, and enhance global competitiveness. Technical textiles are used across sectors such as medical, defense, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Industrial Expansion Targets
