Tamil Nadu Reports Fewer Fatal Road Accidents in 2024 : Tamil Nadu has made considerable strides in enhancing road safety, with the number of fatal road accidents and deaths declining in 2024. The state reported 273 fewer fatalities compared to the previous year, pointing to the success of targeted enforcement and emergency protocols.
Data shows that in 2023, the state saw 17,526 fatal crashes, resulting in 18,347 deaths. In contrast, 2024 recorded 17,282 such incidents, with 18,074 people losing their lives—an overall drop in both categories.
Stronger Enforcement of Traffic Laws
Efforts to curb traffic violations were intensified in 2024. Authorities took strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act, leading to the suspension of 80,558 driving licences for various offences. This reflects the government’s resolve to promote safe driving practices and deter repeat offenders.
Emergency Care Within the Golden Hour Saves Lives
An important contributor to this positive trend has been the efficiency of highway patrol units, who played a crucial role in responding to emergencies. 12,629 individuals critically injured in road accidents were transported to medical facilities within the Golden Hour, significantly boosting survival rates and reducing the likelihood of fatalities.
