Tamil Nadu HPV Vaccination Drive Expansion: The Government of Tamil Nadu launched the HPV vaccination programme on 27 January 2026. The primary aim is to protect 14-year-old girls from cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women.
The initiative focuses on early immunization to reduce long-term disease burden. It aligns with national goals to strengthen preventive healthcare.

Coverage and Achievement
Within just six weeks, the programme achieved an impressive 81% vaccination coverage. Approximately four out of five identified girls received the single-dose HPV vaccine.
This high coverage reflects effective coordination between health workers, schools, and local administration. It also indicates growing awareness about preventive healthcare.
