Tamil Nadu economic strength and industrial leadership: Tamil Nadu has emerged as the fastest-growing State economy, recording 11.19% real growth in 2024–25. This confirms its status as an investment-ready and industry-driven State, according to the Economic Survey of India 2025–26. The State is currently the second-largest economy in India, contributing significantly to national output.

The State’s overall Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth averaged 8.63% between 2021–22 and 2024–25, showing strong economic stability. Its balanced development across industry and services sectors supports consistent long-term growth.

The secondary sector, especially manufacturing, has been the primary engine of growth. Tamil Nadu recorded 13.43% growth in the secondary sector, while manufacturing alone grew at 14.74%, more than three times the all-India average of 4.5%.

Tamil Nadu contributes 15% of India’s total manufacturing employment, the highest among all States. It surpasses industrial giants like Gujarat (13%), Maharashtra (13%), and Uttar Pradesh (8%).

The State received ₹100 crore central assistance to establish a Medical Devices Park, boosting healthcare manufacturing. This supports India’s goal of becoming a global hub for medical equipment production.

Tamil Nadu improved its business environment under the Business Reforms Action Plan 2024, introducing single-window clearances, digitised approvals, and land reforms.

Leadership in green energy and hydrogen economy

Tamil Nadu secured a strategic position under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with V.O. Chidambaranar Port designated as one of India’s three green hydrogen hubs. This supports India’s target to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030.

The State also promotes solar parks, decarbonisation plans, and energy efficiency programmes, strengthening clean energy leadership.

Strong services, agriculture, and blue economy
