Record-Breaking Collection
Tamil Nadu Breaks Record in Grain Procurement for 2025: Tamil Nadu has achieved a historic milestone in paddy procurement for the year 2025. As of February 4, the state recorded the procurement of 10.41 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, showing a steep rise from the previous year’s figure. This achievement reflects the government’s proactive efforts in strengthening food security and supporting the farming sector.
Boost in Support Prices
The state government introduced revised prices from September 1, 2024, to ensure better returns for farmers. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) was increased to ₹2,450 per quintal for Grade A paddy and ₹2,405 for common varieties. This price hike has significantly improved farmer participation in the procurement process and enhanced rural income levels.
Expanded Procurement Network
To improve accessibility, Tamil Nadu has set up a wide network of Direct Procurement Centres across districts. A total of 2,444 centres have been made operational, enabling smoother transactions and reducing the role of intermediaries. This effort has empowered small and marginal farmers with direct market access and transparent pricing.
Direct Financial Transfers
In line with the government’s push for digital governance, the funds from the sale of paddy are transferred directly to the farmers’ bank accounts. As of now, over ₹2,247 crore has been deposited into the accounts of 1.44 lakh farmers, ensuring prompt payments and boosting trust in the procurement system.
Yearly Comparison
The sharp increase in procurement numbers clearly demonstrates both improved production and growing confidence in government policies. Comparing year-on-year data, Tamil Nadu has managed to procure nearly 3 lakh tonnes more than the same time last year, indicating both efficient implementation and farmer satisfaction.
