A Trusted Investment Returns for the Elderly
SBI’s Amrit Vrishti FD Scheme Returns with Revised Rates for 2025: The State Bank of India (SBI) has brought back its popular fixed deposit scheme, the Amrit Vrishti FD, starting April 15, 2025, with updated interest rates. Initially launched in July 2024 and concluded in March 2025, the scheme is now relaunched to provide secure and profitable investment options especially tailored for senior and super-senior citizens. This move reflects SBI’s effort to boost savings among India’s elderly population while aligning with shifting economic and interest rate trends.
Revised Interest Rates and Tenure
The Amrit Vrishti Fixed Deposit offers a fixed tenure of 444 days, making it a suitable medium-term savings option for investors.Under the revised scheme, senior citizens are offered an interest rate of 7.55%, while super-senior citizens—those aged 80 years and above—are entitled to a higher rate of 7.65%. These rates are marginally lower than the previous version, where senior citizens received up to 7.75%. The general public, too, can invest, with a revised rate of 7.05%, slightly down from 7.25% earlier.
This scheme is designed to offer reliable returns in a time when many market-linked investments come with uncertainties. For retirees and pensioners, such options ensure a steady income without the risks involved in equities or mutual funds.
Market-Aligned Adjustments
The revisions in interest rates reflect the overall adjustments to the repo rate and broader monetary policy shifts by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). For example, interest rates for other SBI FD tenures were also adjusted downward:
1 year to <2 years: Reduced to 7.20% (from 7.30%)
2 years to <3 years: Reduced to 7.40% (from 7.50%)
These adjustments make Amrit Vrishti an attractive and competitive alternative for those seeking slightly better returns over the medium term.
Inclusive and Flexible Structure
One of the most investor-friendly features of this scheme is that it has no specific deadline. Unlike most special FD offers, where applications are accepted only for a limited period, SBI has kept the window open, allowing people to invest at their convenience. This makes the scheme especially beneficial for senior citizens who prefer flexibility and low-pressure planning.
Targeting Long-Term Financial Security
With this re-launch, SBI reaffirms its commitment to financial inclusion and support for India’s elderly. The Amrit Vrishti FD isn’t just about higher interest rates—it’s about creating a secure and predictable income stream for those who need it most. As life expectancy rises and retirement spans grow longer, such schemes offer much-needed stability and peace of mind.
