Recognising Excellence in Indian Parliament
Sansad Ratna Awards 2025: Saluting the Nation’s Top Performing MPs: The 2025 Sansad Ratna Awards will honour 17 exceptional Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, as well as two high-performing Parliamentary Committees. These awards, based on detailed performance metrics, will be presented at the 15th annual ceremony in New Delhi this July. The selection process was overseen by a jury led by Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, a former Union Minister and current Chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
A Vision Sparked by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Founded in 2010 by the Prime Point Foundation and eMagazine PreSense, the Sansad Ratna Awards were inspired by a suggestion from Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who also inaugurated the inaugural ceremony in Chennai. Interestingly, Hansraj Ahir was the first-ever recipient. Over the last 14 years, 125 awards have been given out based on a transparent scoring system that uses official data from the Parliament Secretariat and PRS Legislative Research, assessing MPs on debates, questions, and bills introduced.
Special Honour for Consistent Performers
This year, four MPs have been recognised with Special Jury Awards for their long-standing contributions to parliamentary democracy across three Lok Sabha terms (16th to 18th):
- Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP – Odisha)
- K. Premachandran (RSP – Kerala)
- Supriya Sule (NCP-SP – Maharashtra)
- Shrirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena – Maharashtra)
These leaders have shown sustained commitment and top-tier performance in legislative responsibilities.
State-Wise Winners: Maharashtra Leads
Among the 17 individual honourees, Maharashtra stands out with seven MPs receiving the award. Other states like Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan also feature prominently. A noteworthy inclusion is C.N. Annadurai from Tamil Nadu, who becomes the first awardee from the state in over a decade.
