Reliance Mega Clean Energy Projects in Gujarat

Jamnagar as a future energy hub

Reliance Mega Clean Energy Projects in Gujarat: At the 48th Annual General Meeting, Reliance Industries revealed plans to transform Jamnagar into a global clean energy centre. Anant Ambani outlined the vision for the Dhirubhai Ambani Giga Energy Complex, combining solar, hydrogen, and advanced battery manufacturing within a single facility.

Static GK fact: Jamnagar already houses the largest petroleum refinery in the world, operated by Reliance.

Unprecedented scale of construction

The Jamnagar complex is being developed with record-breaking figures. It will cover 44 million sq ft of built-up area, utilize 7 lakh tonnes of steel—nearly 100 Eiffel Towers worth—and require 1 lakh kilometres of cable, almost equivalent to the distance from Earth to the Moon. A peak workforce of 50,000 people will contribute to its construction.

Static GK tip: The Eiffel Tower in Paris weighs around 7,300 tonnes, which highlights the scale of steel being used.

Battery and hydrogen manufacturing units

The project includes a battery storage factory expected to begin operations in 2026 with a capacity of 40 GWh per year, later expanding to 100 GWh annually. In addition, a large electrolyser factory with a 3 GW yearly capacity will be functional by the end of 2026, supporting green hydrogen production at scale.

Static GK fact: One gigawatt-hour of energy can power nearly 1,00,000 homes for an entire year.

Kutch as a solar energy leader

Reliance is also building one of the largest single-site solar projects in Kutch, Gujarat, spanning over 550,000 acres, nearly three times larger than Singapore. Once fully operational, this facility will install 55 MW of solar modules and 150 MWh of battery capacity each day.

Within the next decade, this mega solar park is projected to supply around 10% of India’s electricity demand, making Kutch a global symbol of renewable power.

Static GK fact: India’s installed solar capacity crossed 82 GW in 2024, placing it among the top five countries in solar energy capacity.

Towards a global green energy supply chain

Reliance is working to integrate operations across Jamnagar, Kutch, and Kandla to create a connected ecosystem for clean energy. This network will enable large-scale production and export of green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The aim is to make India a global hub for affordable renewable energy solutions.

Static GK tip: According to IRENA, green hydrogen could account for more than 12% of global energy use by 2050.
