Professional journey of Ram Mohan

Ram Mohan began his MPEDA journey back in 2003. Over the years, he held various crucial positions that dealt with marketing strategies, quality assurance, and infrastructure development. His role in Tokyo was especially impactful in shaping India-Japan seafood trade relations. His familiarity with global standards and customer preferences is expected to help India fine-tune its seafood exports.

Educational foundation and affiliations

Ram Mohan is academically strong as well. He completed his post-graduation in mariculture from the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) under CUSAT and later earned a Ph.D. from the ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai. Apart from heading MPEDA now, he also serves as a Board Member for several marine-related bodies such as MIDCON, Seafood Park India Ltd., and the Lakshadweep Development Corporation Ltd.

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) was established in 1972 and works under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Its headquarters is in Kochi, Kerala. MPEDA plays a key role in promoting marine exports, ensuring quality control, and creating infrastructure for seafood processing and storage. It also supports sustainable aquaculture practices.

Ram Mohan’s appointment couldn’t have come at a better time.
