Rashtrapati Bhavan Hosts a Nationwide Celebration of Ability
Purple Fest 2025: Celebrating Diversity, Dignity, and Inclusion: Held at Amrit Udyan within Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Purple Fest 2025 emerged as a dynamic celebration dedicated to recognising the strength and accomplishments of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan). Spearheaded by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DePwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the event attracted a massive gathering of over 23,500 people, including senior dignitaries, industry representatives, and delegates from various parts of the country. The festival was formally inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu, setting the stage for a vibrant showcase of sports, culture, and inclusive innovation.
Expressions of Talent and Spirit Through Culture and Sports
The festival showcased the extraordinary talents of Divyangjan through dance, drama, and literary panels, such as “Meet the Director” and storytelling sessions. On the sporting front, the event witnessed fierce yet friendly competitions in blind cricket, boccia, and wheelchair basketball, underscoring the transformative power of adaptive sports in public engagement and physical empowerment.
Private Sector Steps Up for Social Inclusion
Purple Fest 2025 stood out for its strong public-private collaboration. Companies like Tata Power, American India Foundation (AIF), Hans India, and Tech Mahindra Foundation participated actively through their CSR initiatives, supporting programs on education, skilling, and job creation for Divyangjan. These collaborations reflect a growing commitment from India’s corporate world to drive inclusive growth beyond charity—through sustained, impactful change.
Policy Commitments and Structural Progress
Beyond celebration, the event featured the signing of several MoUs to promote long-term accessibility, economic empowerment, and social integration. These agreements reinforce the government’s strategic focus on policy-driven disability inclusion, ensuring that initiatives are institutionalised, monitored, and aligned with national development goals. The emphasis was not just on recognition, but on building lasting systems for equality.
