Nangal to Be Developed as a Tourist Hub
Punjab to Develop Nangal as a Tourist Hub & Launch First Leopard Safari at Jhajjar Bachauli: In a major tourism push under the ‘Badalda Punjab’ Budget 2025-26, the Punjab Government has announced a ₹10 crore initiative to transform Nangal into a leading tourist destination. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains emphasized the town’s potential due to its natural landscape and proximity to the Bhakra-Nangal Dam. The development aims to improve infrastructure, enhance local attractions, and generate employment opportunities for youth in the hospitality and travel sectors.
Punjab’s First Leopard Safari at Jhajjar Bachauli
Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Sri Anandpur Sahib, will become Punjab’s first dedicated leopard safari. This eco-tourism initiative seeks to offer tourists a chance to observe leopards and other native wildlife in their natural habitat. The safari is designed to support biodiversity conservation and boost awareness around sustainable tourism practices, positioning Punjab as a unique wildlife destination.
Honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s Legacy
A special budget has been allocated for infrastructure development and heritage preservation in Sri Anandpur Sahib, marking the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The government aims to improve roads, pilgrim facilities, and historical sites to promote spiritual tourism and honour the legacy of the revered Sikh Guru. This aligns with Punjab’s broader cultural and spiritual tourism revival.
Economic and Cultural Upliftment through Tourism
By investing in heritage and eco-tourism, Punjab hopes to attract domestic and international tourists, creating ripple effects across related sectors. The combined development of Nangal and Jhajjar Bachauli is expected to boost the state’s tourism economy, support local businesses, and preserve Punjab’s cultural heritage. These projects also aim to foster environmental awareness through responsible tourism initiatives.
