Reform campaign to attract industries
Punjab Launches Udyog Kranti to Boost Industrial Growth: On June 10, 2025, Punjab took a bold step towards transforming its industrial landscape. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government launched a major initiative called Punjab Udyog Kranti. This reform-driven campaign aims to make Punjab one of the easiest places in India to start and run a business. With Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal at the forefront, this plan marks a new beginning for Punjab’s industrial ecosystem.
Unlike earlier fragmented policies, this is the first state-level industrial revolution campaign in India that brings 12 reforms under one umbrella. It’s designed to speed up processes, reduce paperwork, and encourage investors both from within India and abroad.
Time-bound clearances to reduce delays
One of the most talked-about features is the 45-day deemed approval system. If any industrial application isn’t cleared within 45 working days, it will be automatically approved. This rule ensures that departments can’t delay projects unnecessarily. It’s a move to end red tape and improve transparency.
In addition, the FastTrack Punjab Portal acts as a digital single-window platform where all applications and approvals happen online. Investors no longer need to visit multiple offices or wait endlessly.
Digitisation and simplified procedures
The government also introduced an innovative colour-coded stamp paper system. These stamps cover payments related to CLU, fire, pollution, and other clearances. Once the stamp paper is purchased, all required approvals are guaranteed within 15 days.
Another major change is self-certification for structural stability. Earlier, applicants had to depend on government-approved experts for verifying building stability. Now, businesses can certify on their own, saving time and cost.
Creating a business-friendly environment
The reform includes a Single Pen System, meaning that the investor interacts with just one platform and authority. No more running from one department to another. The idea is simple — make doing business as smooth and predictable as possible.
If any government department fails to act within the time limit, the system steps in. This builds accountability and prevents unnecessary harassment.
Static background and importance
Punjab already has a strong base in textiles, agriculture-based industries, engineering, and auto parts. Around 25% of the state’s GSDP comes from the industrial sector. Yet, for years, businesses in Punjab faced delays, high compliance costs, and multiple clearances.
Invest Punjab, the state’s dedicated investment agency, will play a central role in executing this new plan.
A model for other states
With Udyog Kranti, Punjab is setting a benchmark. It supports the goals of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat at the state level. It also encourages entrepreneurship and job creation, two key factors for any growing economy.
