Strengthening India through State-Led Development
PM Modi Leads 10th NITI Aayog Meet for Viksit Bharat Vision: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on May 24, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This gathering wasn’t just a formality. It marked a step towards transforming the country by the time it completes 100 years of independence in 2047. The core idea was simple yet powerful: if each state becomes strong and progressive, the whole nation naturally moves toward a Viksit Bharat.
Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and senior officials joined hands to brainstorm how each state can act as a growth engine. The goal? A developed India that leaves no one behind.
States as the Driving Force
The theme, “Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047,” underlined the importance of empowering states. The idea is to allow every state to create its own vision document, reflecting both national goals and local strengths. This gives states flexibility, ownership, and the power to implement policies that work best for their unique conditions.
By shifting from a top-down to a bottom-up planning approach, the meeting set the tone for cooperative federalism in its true sense.
Key Areas of Discussion
The discussions were focused on six core areas. These came from the earlier 4th National Conference of Chief Secretaries and included:
- Boosting manufacturing and services in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities
- Encouraging urban and rural MSME sectors
- Addressing informal employment
- Promoting green energy solutions and the circular economy
Each of these areas points towards inclusive development. For example, supporting MSMEs in smaller towns can reduce pressure on metro cities while also generating jobs locally.
Technology and Youth as Change Makers
A major thrust was on data-driven governance. Setting up Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) units and using ICT infrastructure in states were proposed. This approach aims to bring more transparency, efficiency, and accountability to governance.
The focus on employment and skilling reflects a keen understanding of India’s demographic dividend. With a large working-age population, India has an edge. But that edge only counts when people are trained and job-ready.
Static GK Bite: NITI Aayog, short for National Institution for Transforming India, was established on January 1, 2015, replacing the Planning Commission that was formed in 1950.
Sustainable Growth in Sight
With India pushing forward in the global race for development, green growth isn’t an option—it’s a necessity. The meeting urged all stakeholders to tap into renewable energy and adopt sustainable practices to ensure long-term progress.
The broader message was that India’s growth story must also be environmentally responsible and socially inclusive.
