About ARISE 2025 Conclave
ARISE 2025 is a national-level platform dedicated to strengthening Health Technology Assessment capacity in India.
The conclave was organised by HTA In, India’s official HTA agency under the Department of Health Research.
More than 35 medical colleges and ICMR institutes actively engaged in HTA activities participated in the event.
The conclave focused on translating research evidence into actionable public health policies.
Static GK Tip: HTA In serves as India’s nodal agency for institutionalising Health Technology Assessment in policymaking.
PGIMER’s HTA Resource Hub
PGIMER’s success is anchored in its HTA Resource Hub, housed within the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health.
The hub was established by the Department of Health Research to build national HTA capacity.
The centre is led by Prof Shankar Prinja, a leading expert in health economics.
Under his leadership, the hub has supported both central and state governments in evidence-informed decision-making.
This is PGIMER’s second consecutive national recognition, following a similar honour at the ICMR–DHR Health Summit last year.
Importance of Health Technology Assessment
Health Technology Assessment evaluates the clinical effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and social impact of health interventions.
It helps governments prioritise limited public resources without compromising healthcare outcomes.
In India, HTA findings are increasingly integrated into policy formulation and programme design.
This marks a shift from opinion-based decisions to data-driven governance.
Static GK fact: HTA is widely used by countries such as the UK, Canada, and Australia to guide public health spending.
Policy Impact of PGIMER’s HTA Work
HTA research supported by PGIMER has influenced several major health initiatives.
It has played a role in designing reimbursement rates under Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY.
The evidence has also guided value-based procurement of medical devices.
It has improved transparency, efficiency, and equity in healthcare spending.
Experts at ARISE 2025 highlighted that HTA helps avoid wasteful expenditure while expanding access to essential services.
Institutions like PGIMER bridge the gap between research and governance.
Broader Significance
The recognition reflects India’s growing commitment to evidence-based health reforms.
It strengthens institutional credibility and encourages wider adoption of HTA across states.
PGIMER’s achievement reinforces the role of academic institutions in shaping sustainable public health systems.
It also signals India’s readiness to align health spending with outcomes and equity.
