Padma Awardees from Tamil Nadu – 2025: Honouring Diverse Excellence : In the 2025 edition of the Padma Awards, 13 individuals from Tamil Nadu and 1 from Puducherry have been honoured for their outstanding achievements in varied fields such as art, science, literature, journalism, sports, and industry. These recognitions reflect the multifaceted talent and contribution of the state to India’s national growth and heritage.
Among the standout names is Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, awarded the Padma Bhushan for his longstanding impact in Trade and Industry, particularly for preserving and popularising Kanchipuram silk sarees through his brand, Nalli Silks. His role in promoting Tamil Nadu’s traditional handloom sector is widely celebrated.
Celebrating Icons of Sports and Science
Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s leading Test cricketer, has been conferred the Padma Shri, acknowledging his career tally of 537 Test wickets and exceptional service to Indian cricket.
Another major recognition goes to Dr. M. D. Srinivas, a respected physicist and scholar, who received the Padma Shri for his valuable input in the realm of Science and Engineering.
