Meghalaya Organic Week Momentum: Meghalaya has hosted its first Northeast India Organic Week, marking a major step in positioning the region as a strong player in the global organic marketplace. The four-day event brings together experts, buyers and youth leaders to highlight the region’s biodiversity-driven produce.
The initiative aims to strengthen market access for farmers and promote long-term commercial partnerships within the growing sustainable food sector.
Collaboration Across Institutions
The programme is organised by the state agriculture department along with APEDA, the Union commerce ministry and IFOAM-Organics Asia. Officials noted that this multi-level collaboration is crucial for expanding global linkages for high-value organic products.

Global Delegations And Market Linkages
Delegations and importers from 13 countries, including Malaysia, Taiwan, Mongolia, New Zealand and Indonesia, are participating in the event.
A key highlight is the APEDA buyer-seller meet, designed to create direct connections between regional producers and global organic markets seeking certified and sustainable products.

APEDA representatives emphasised that the region is well-positioned to tap emerging markets due to increasing global demand for high-quality organic produce.
Youth Leadership And Economic Growth
The event also includes the 4th IFOAM World Organic Youth Summit, aiming to inspire young leaders to develop organic entrepreneurship and sustainable value chains.
Officials highlighted that Meghalaya’s post-pandemic economic recovery has been largely driven by agriculture, making youth participation essential for future growth.
