Shortcomings of the current airport

The existing Kota Airport has very limited capacity. With only a 1,220m runway suitable for small Code B aircraft and a tiny 400 sqm terminal, the facility can handle just about 50 passengers at peak hours. Urban sprawl around the site prevents any meaningful expansion, leaving it unfit for large-scale commercial services.

Approval for a new facility

To address this gap, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared the proposal of the Airports Authority of India for constructing a Greenfield Airport at Kota-Bundi. The plan involves an outlay of ₹1,507 crore, with the Rajasthan Government already handing over more than 440 hectares of land.

Infrastructure blueprint

The new airport will feature a 20,000 sqm passenger terminal designed to manage 1,000 travelers at peak hours and up to 2 million passengers annually. Its key elements include a 3,200m runway, an apron for seven A-321 aircraft, two taxiways, a modern air traffic control block, firefighting facilities, and dedicated car parking.
