Kerala Cyber Safety Protocol 2026 Protecting Students in the AI Era: The Government of Kerala launched the Cyber Safety Protocol 2026 to protect students from emerging cyber risks linked with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital platforms. The initiative aims to ensure a safe digital learning environment in schools as technology becomes deeply integrated into education.

The framework has been developed by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), which functions as the technology wing of the General Education Department of Kerala. It focuses on strengthening cyber security awareness, student privacy protection, and responsible internet usage.

One important goal is to help students understand the risks of sharing personal data with Generative AI tools. Another objective encourages students to verify online information before believing or sharing it.

The initiative also promotes critical thinking skills, cyber awareness education, and responsible digital citizenship. These measures ensure that students develop safe digital habits from an early stage.

Guidelines for Schools

Under the framework, school administrators and teachers must follow specific cyber safety procedures. School heads have been assigned 17 operational responsibilities to maintain cyber safety standards.

Schools must ensure teacher-supervised internet access during school hours to prevent misuse of online resources. Each school is also required to establish a School Cyber Security Committee led by a designated coordinator.

These committees will monitor digital activities, educate students about cyber risks, and provide guidance on safe internet practices within school campuses.

The collaborative approach ensures that schools and families work together to create a safer digital ecosystem for children.

Legal Support for Cyber Safety

The Cyber Safety Protocol 2026 is supported by several Indian legal frameworks related to cyber security and child protection. These laws provide the legal backing for implementing safety standards in schools.

Key laws include the Information Technology Act 2000, Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The protocol also considers updated 2026 IT rules related to Synthetically Generated Information (SGI) to address AI-generated digital content.
