Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 Begins December 2 2025: The fourth edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 (KTS 4.0) is scheduled to begin on 2 December 2025 in Varanasi (Kashi) and will run through mid-December. This initiative, under the umbrella of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, aims at promoting the cultural, spiritual and linguistic ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. The theme is “Let us Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam”, spotlighting the Tamil language as a medium for national unity.

Historical and Cultural Linkages
Tamil Nadu and Kashi are two of India’s ancient civilisational hubs. Over centuries, Tamil pilgrims, scholars and traders travelled to Kashi via dynasties such as the Cholas and Pandyas. The Sangamam aims to rekindle these historical bonds through immersive experiences.

Key Features of KTS 4.0
Delegates and Participation
More than 1,400 delegates from Tamil Nadu across seven categories—students; teachers; writers and media professionals; agriculture & allied sectors; professionals and artisans; women; and spiritual scholars—will participate. They will embark on an 8-day immersive journey visiting Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya, engaging in seminars, heritage walks, cultural performances and academic interactions.
Major Initiatives
- Agasthya Expedition: Launching from Tenkasi on 2 December and reaching Kashi, tracing the ancient route of sage Agastya and reviving Tamil heritage links.
- Tamil in Varanasi Schools (“Tamil Karkalam”): About 50 Tamil-speaking teachers who know Hindi will teach Tamil in schools in Varanasi, making classical Tamil accessible to North Indian students.
- Tamil Immersion Tour for UP Students: 300 college students from Uttar Pradesh will go on a 15-day Tamil learning programme in Tamil Nadu, with orientation and exposure to culture and heritage.
Organisers and Collaboration
This year’s edition is coordinated by IIT Madras and BHU, supported by several ministries including Culture; Tourism; Textiles; MSME; Food Processing Industries; Information & Broadcasting; and by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Significance and Outcomes
The event seeks to emphasise that all Indian languages are part of one Bharatiya Bhasha family and that Tamil is not just a regional language but a national heritage. It fosters inter-regional understanding, supports linguistic diversity, and strengthens India’s cultural unity.
